ND739

In October 2012 it was announced that the wreck of ND739 had been discovered and identified. The crash site had been examined and partially excavated several times in the previous couple of years.
The site was discovered by Tony Graves when he was looking for the site of a P-47 crash, as described in the book "Tonight We Die As Men". On reaching the site, the presence of British .303 ammunition determined that the aircraft wasn't a P-47. Subsequent investigation of pieces found confirmed it was a Lancaster, and the discovery of a ring belonging to one of the crew has seemingly confirmed it is indeed ND739.

The highly decorated and experienced crew were as follows:
W/C E J Carter DFC
P/O G E Dunning DFM
F/L R J Conley DFC RAAF
F/L H W Rieger RCAF
F/O H W E Jeffery DFM
F/L A Chambers DFC & Bar
W/O F R Watson DFM
S/L M Bryan-Smith DFC & Bar, MiD
